The C-5 grade (AN-53) is a tough grade suitable for use uncoated or coated with a hardness of 90.8 Ra, high TiC and TaC for cutting steel, and medium to high fracture toughness and medium abrasion resistance. AN-53 is designed for general purpose metal removal operations such as turning, boring, and milling. It performs best at medium cutting speeds and feed rates on medium interrupted cuts on a wide variety of carbon and alloy steels.
