This is a comination unit that combines two Sencore test units into one: The TC 162 Tube Tester adn the TC 28 Transistor tester. It is called the Hybrider.
Sencore Mighty Mite tube testers are durable, easy-to-use, and test a wide variety of modern tubes (including modern sweep tubes such as #8950). They were VERY popular among old-timer technicians. For most people , they are a very good choice.
Regardless of model, all the Mighty Mite solid-state models use the same circuitry, albeit configured slightly different among each model.
I have used this tester primarily for tube testing. The testing manual is easy to use with clear instructions.
It will test for 5,145 different tube designations with several tube families represented, 13 tube base types including octal and 9 pin minuature. Unit is clean and has worked well for me. The unit tests for: Shorts, Emission, Life Test and Grid Leakage. A top cap probe wire is included for those tubes with a top cap plate connections. This unit comes with test probes for transitor point testing: red, yellow and green probes.
The transitor portion of the unit will test for Gain and Leakage. Leakage characteristics are listed on the unit for Germanium and Silicon transitors. This feature will come in handy for solid state vintage testing as these units gain greater prominance in the vintage audio market.
The unit has a grounded power cord. The case is sturdy and functional. The lid opens with push button spring clasps. The sping loaded lid stays open and holds the tube test manual of settings for the unit and also displays tube testing instructions and transitor instructions and comparative transitor values for both transitor test types.
