These are the Original Equipment Manufacturer's (HP) Operator's Manual (Front Panel), Programming Manual (GPIB), and Service Manual (there are no schematics in this service manual as supplied by HP; it's a "modular level" manual) for the Model HP54501A Digitizing Oscilloscope. These are in .PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader) format. From this disk, you can recreate the information in the original manuals in printed form if you wish, using Acrobat (a distributable version is included). These manuals include operations, programming, and service information specific to the HP54501A plus a great deal of general info pertaining to digitizing oscilloscopes and their use. There are three additional documents, all HP publications, as listed in the title of this description and further described below.
Two PDFs of the operating, programming, and service manual are provided, in two resolutions. One is:
Text with Drawings at 600dpi black and white
Schematics at 600dpi black and white
Text with photos at 600dpi grayscale with contrast adjusted
Schematics, board overlays that have color notes at 600dpi 256 colors
This resolution looks nice, but for many purposes uses excessive resources. Although it's great to have this resolution for those times you need higher definition, we also include a second scan in more normal resolutions for daily research and use on the bench.
The second scan is done in resolutions that vary depending on individual page content, but are never higher than needed to produce a useable quality, quickly navigable file that will do the job without consuming more time and resources than are needed.
On the CD you'll receive the large "very high resolution" file, plus the smaller, faster and often more useable text-searchable version. ALL original manual pages are supplied. Page counts and file sizes are very often artificially inflated with advertising, shareware begging letters and/or blank pages. We refrain from joining in those games and instead will tell you that these manuals are complete and are scanned in the specified resolutions.
The three support documents (Getting Started, Feeling Comfortable w/Digitizing 'Scopes and QuickC/QuickBasic for 54500 family) are each provided in a print friendly format, with each manual in a separate subdirectory of CD number 2. There is a "front" and "back" PDF for each manual, and you simply print the "front.pdf" file, turn the sheets over and print the "back.pdf". It's very convenient!
