DETAILED ALTERNATOR SPECIFICATIONS TYPE: TYPE: Four pole revolving field, statically excited, statically ecited, self-regulated, drip proof engine.
EXCITATION: Statically excited inherently regulated. The excitation voltage is taken off the secondary of a voltage reference transformer and rectified to D.C. current (by solid state diodes) and fed to the alternator rotor field. Troublesome commutator brushes are eliminated.
DIODES: Silicon rectifiers, hermetically sealed, rated 30 amps, 800 volts. Peak inverse voltage at 100 degrease Celsius.
POWER FACTOR: Single phase alternators are rated at 100% power factor.
VOLTAGE REGULATION: Within plus or minus 4%.
FREQUENCY REGULATION: 4 Hertz (5%). No load to rated load.
INSULATION: Class F per NEMA MG1-1.65 definition. Insulating varnish conforms to MIL-I-24092.
TEMPATURE RISE: Temperature rise at rated load is within NEMA MG1-22.40 definition.
STATOR: Electrical grade silicon steel laminations welded into a steel frame. Coils are machine wound with cooper polythermaleze wire and inserted into mylar insulated stator slots. Stator is dripped in electrical insulating varnish and baked. Load is taken directly from stator leads. No A.C. brushesor AC collector rings.
ROTOR: Laminated electrical grade silicon steel pressed onto steel shaft. Field coils are machine wound over mylar insulation with copper polythermaleze wire and impregnated with insulating varnish and baked. Field coils have special wedges to prevent movement under centrifugal force. Permanent magnets in rotor retain residual magnetism, insuring voltage build up under all operating conditions even after short circuit. Balanced before final assembly.EXCITER BRUSHES: Long life D.C. field brushes are electrographitic, constant pressure, self-adjusting. Brushes carry only low amperage excitation current. BEARING: Rotor is supported by a lifetime lubricated precision heavy duty ball bearing.COOLING: a direct drive centrifugal fan forces air through the alternator, discharging it at the engine end.
